2022.01.19 01:43 Tory-Three-Pies From the synagogue hostages to the Uyghurs. There's virtue-signaling in the IDW.

Concerning the recent hostage situation in Texas. Bari Weiss wrote this:

Back then, in October 2018, it felt like the whole country grasped that a wound to the Tree of Life was a wound to the Tree of Liberty itself. That the monstrous attack in my hometown was not simply an attack on Jews, but an attack on our collective home. And that what was at stake in standing up against the deranged, conspiratorial mindset that led a neo-Nazi to the synagogue that morning was nothing less than America itself.
What I now see is this: In America captured by tribalism and dehumanization, in an America swept up by ideologies that pit us against one another in a zero-sum game, in an America enthralled with the poisonous idea that some groups matter more than others, not all Jews—and not all Jewish victims—are treated equally. What seems to matter most to media pundits and politicians is not the Jews themselves, but the identities of their attackers.
Bari Weiss straight up gets this wrong. There is no link to Malik Faisal Akram and ideological anti-semitism. By all accounts his motive has been reported as being far more scattered than just about Aafia Siddiqui. We have him on tape expressing his intention to die in that synagogue. This is no different from the several other random attacks by homeless people this week-- from the stabbing of the furniture store employee, the pushing of a woman into an NYC subway, or the murder of the nurse at an LA bus stop. Treating this like an anti-semitic terror attack is utterly dishonest.
There is a certain truth that Bari Weiss hints at-- illustrated by this CNN segment-- where Jews are not granted the same protections and sensitivity that other minority groups like blacks are. But this is just an example of hypocrisy and dishonesty, not anti-semitism. One of the main contentions of the IDW is that crimes are too often called racism-- which is precisely what Bari has done here. Bari and others ignore that anti-semitism in many cases is often treated as much more serious crimes against inclusivity. Psychologists like Kevin McDonald are outcast from society, while scholars like Aruna Khilanani and Robin DiAngelo are invited to speak at Columbia despite using the same logic for their racism.
This Weiss article was retweeted by several IDW members including Eric Weinstein and Ben Shapiro. Both of whom had choice words for Chamath Palihapitiya's comments on the Uyghurs.
The problem is, Chamath Palihapitiya had a point. Mr. Palihapitiya said other, indefensible things in the podcast, namely when he tried to compare China's human right's violations to the disproportionate amount of minorities in US prisons and questioned whether or not China was a dictatorship. But when he said he didn't care about the Uyghurs, and neither did anybody else... he was right. The panel of that podcast were billionaire VCs who were talking about tangible steps that could be taken about global issues and Chamath nailed it on the head when he observed that the genocide of the Uyghurs doesn't effect anybody and nobody is advocating for it's end. He astutely (if coldly) pointed out that there would be real-world consequences to China invading Taiwan but not this cultural genocide of the Uyghurs, so he cares about one but not the other. He also pointed out there is no push to start a trade or military war with China to end the atrocity-- nor would it be effective. The US's efforts to end human rights violations in the Middle East have proven again and again and again to be ineffective. The demands to be made of China are completely undefined-- are we asking them to just kick the Uyghurs to any ghetto and please not track them, how would we even regulate that? Any comparison to the Holocaust comes up short because there's no evidence that-- had Nazi Germany not been invading Europe-- would the US or anyone else have intervened. While Mr. Palihapitiya falters in other areas, I see no issue in his stance that the Uyghur genocide is largely irrelevant to policy.
These are just two big, recent examples where it seems the IDW has gotten it wrong, and can be precisely attributed to "virtue-signaling". But these examples aren't entirely rare. Recently Sam Harris had a bizarre tweet about Joss Whedon-- who apparently once was so irresponsible when he was 5 years old that it led to another child's death. And Sam fancies himself as the great dissenter of the IDW. These are media figures and they have narratives that build their brands.

2022.01.19 01:43 DedSec_Pearce Now that Microsoft owns Activision, I hope they separate Modern Warfare 2019 from Warzone.

The point of using warzone as a launcher on top of battle.net and an always online DRM in these games are outright shitty and unnecessary. A steam release is least MS should do, with proper offline support.

Maybe I can find some inspo in your answers. Thank you in Advance!

2022.01.19 01:43 PorkDumplin23 Is it possible to learn to hollow your throat even further?

I’m beginning to think that all the hollow sounds I can’t do is not because my technique is wrong but because I just can’t get my dang Adam’s apple low enough.
Does anybody know/ experience being able to lower their addam’s apple lower and lower (hollow their throat more and more) over time?
Just curious. If it’s just down to genetics, then I’m screwed I guess 😂

2022.01.19 01:43 AlienVector Enlightenment during deaty

I am reading this book called The science of Enlightenment by Shinzen young. In that he says, how meditation is traveling through 3 stages: surface, intermediary, and the Source. Surface is the beginning stage, intermediary is when we access subconscious (demons and angels: Mara), and source is enlightenment. But I'm wondering would the same process happen during death? There are reports where People with NDE get profound experiences. If that's true, does that mean the entire process of meditation to enlightenment happens so quick during death?? Interested to discuss.
